Note: Woe betide those who do not respect the ancient gods...
The retrieval from the bottom of an uncharted Maya cenote of a gold bead shaped after a frog sends world-renowned museographer Robert Garvin on a frenzy for original Maya art to display in his museums pursuant an agreement with the Mexican government for a share of the profits.
In no time, expedition manager Harold Ross cobbles up on Garvin’s behalf an archaeological expedition to Yucatan. Ross flies in postgraduate students Ann Kaplan and Neal Child, who carry an experimental technology capable of reading glyphs caked in carbonate deposits. Ross also hires controversial archaeologist Mike Trenton, fired from his teaching position for a preposterous paper on waterways connecting ancient Maya cities.
Overnight, as Ross’s new acquisitions arrive at the site and the up-and-coming enterprise faces logistical issues caused by an obscure entity that slays the expedition members, Professor Trenton and Kaplan turn to an inscription wall for clues on the identity of the slayer. |
