ATAR AT A GLANCE: A Brief History and Fun Facts about this Middle Eastern Country

Qatar is a small country in the Middle East, but it has a lot to offer. It's home to over 2 million people and is known for its rich history and modern-day innovations.

Qatar also has a rich history—it was once ruled by tribes that lived off fishing and pearl diving, but today it's an essential ally in the fight against terrorism. The country is an oil-rich country that has become one of the most popular destinations in the world. The country's history dates back to 1507, when the Ottoman Empire ruled it. Britain later colonized it in 1874 and Germany in 1899. After World War I, Qatar became a British protectorate known as the Emirate of Qatar.

Qatar is home to many of the world's largest gas reserves and approximately 6% of the world's proven natural gas reserves. The country also has significant oil reserves and produces about 10% of all oil consumed worldwide. The country is also known for its vast deposits of natural gas, which are used for domestic and international trade.

Qatar has a long history as a trading center for many different cultures. Roman ruins dating back to 200 AD have been discovered in Doha and were known by the name Mada during this time. In 1818, Qatar was part of the Ottoman Empire until it gained independence in 1971 due to pressure from Saudi Arabia and Kuwaiti oil companies who wanted access to natural resources such as oil reserves located offshore from Qatar's shores along with other natural resources such as iron ore deposits found in nearby areas like Al Wakrah Peninsula located southwest of Doha City itself which contains several artificial lakes created.
